Screenshot tools

Every tool, up close.

How VizShot works, one step at a time, and a closer look at every tool in it: screen capture, the screenshot editor, the screen recorder and share links.

How it works

One shortcut. Four steps.

Drag the timeline to follow one capture, from the first key press to the link in someone’s chat.

01 · Snap

Press it. Drag. Done.

Press the shortcut and your screen freezes, so nothing moves while you choose. Drag over what you need. The loupe and live size take care of the precision.

  • An area ⌘ ⇧ 2
  • The whole screen ⌘ ⇧ 7
  • With a timer ⌘ ⇧ 8
02 · Mark

One key per tool.

Click the preview to open the editor. Press a letter to pick a tool. Every mark stays editable until you save.

  • Arrow A
  • Numbered step S
  • Highlight H
  • Redact E
03 · Polish

Make it presentable.

Give the screenshot a background: a backdrop with padding, rounded corners and a soft shadow. Crop or rotate it if you need to.

  • Crop C
  • Rotate [ ]
04 · Send

The link is already copied.

Upload the screenshot to your own storage and the share link goes straight to your clipboard. No storage? VizShot saves the file and copies the picture instead.

  • Upload and copy the link ⌘ U
  • Save ⌘ S
  • Copy the picture ⌘ C
Screen capture

Get exactly the shot you meant.

Five ways to grab your screen, each a shortcut away.

Area

⌘ ⇧ 2

Drag over a frozen copy of your screen. An 8× loupe and live dimensions put every edge exactly where you want it.

  • Menus and hover states hold still while you choose.

Timer

⌘ ⇧ 8

A countdown before the capture, for menus and tooltips that close when you click away.

  • Five seconds by default. Set it anywhere from one to sixty.

Whole screen

⌘ ⇧ 7

Captures the display under your pointer. No dragging.

Same area again

⌘ ⇧ 9

Repeats your last selection exactly, for before-and-after shots.

Pointer

Show the pointer in your captures, or leave it out.

  • Off by default. Switch it on in Settings.
Annotate

Say it without a meeting.

The screenshot editor has thirteen tools to annotate with, and each one has its own key.

Thirteen tools

Press a letter to switch tools. No hunting through menus.

V Select A Arrow R Rectangle O Ellipse L Line P Freehand T Text S Numbered step H Highlight F Spotlight B Pixelate E Redact C Crop

Spotlight

F

Drag a box around what matters. Everything else dims, and your arrows and text stay bright on top.

  • One slider sets how dark, from 20% to 90%.

Redact

E

Covers anything private with a solid block. Once you save, there’s nothing underneath to recover.

  • Pixelate (B) blurs a part out of focus, but a blur can be reversed. Use Redact for anything private.

Edit anything

⌘ Z

Every mark stays editable until you save. Move it, recolour it or delete it.

  • Redo with ⌘⇧Z.

Colour and weight

Eight colours, and line widths from 2 to 24 points.

  • New marks start at 6 points. Change the default in Settings.

Backdrop

Give a screenshot a background: one of five backdrops or one of your own, a colour, a gradient or a picture. Padding, rounded corners and a soft shadow as you like.

  • Pick the shape you post in: 16:9, 4:3 or square. Keep up to six of your own for next time.
  • Crop with C. Rotate with [ and ].
Screen recorder

Show it, don’t type it.

Video works the way screenshots do.

Screen recording

⌘ ⇧ 1

Record any area of your screen as MP4. Press stop and the video opens, ready to play.

Share a recording

One click uploads it and copies the link. You can watch the progress as it goes.

  • If the connection drops, the upload picks up where it stopped.

Sound

Records your computer’s audio and your microphone, in one sound track that plays everywhere.

  • On a Mac, the microphone needs macOS 15.

Pause

Pause and pick up again. The clock stops while you’re paused.

Nothing extra

The control bar and the border around the recording never end up in the file.

Share a link

Links on your own address.

Links come from storage you own, on your own web address.

Private names

Every file gets a random name, so nobody can find your other captures by guessing.

Upload automatically

⌘ U

Turn it on and every capture uploads by itself. The link replaces the picture on your clipboard.

  • Or upload one capture at a time with the shortcut.

Your secret key

Kept in your Mac’s keychain or in Credential Manager on Windows. Never in a file, and never sent to us.

  • We never see what you share.
Every day

Small things, done right.

The parts you use without thinking about them.

Your shortcuts

Change any shortcut to the keys you want. VizShot warns you if another app already uses them.

  • On a Mac, the defaults leave ⌘⇧3, 4 and 5 for the Mac’s own screenshot tool.

Recent captures

Every capture in one window. Edit one, copy it, show it in Finder or Explorer, or drag it into Slack, an email or a doc.

  • If you delete one by mistake, you can undo it.

Files your way

Save as PNG or JPEG and pick your own file names. Retina captures can be saved smaller.

  • File names follow a pattern, like “VizShot {date} {time}”.
Settings
