Capture an area
Drag over any part of the screen. Shift makes a square, Esc cancels, and one more shortcut repeats your last area.
This is VizShot's main move. Press the shortcut, drag, let go.
| Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| Capture an area | ⌘ ⇧ 2 | Ctrl Shift 2 |
| Capture the same area again | ⌘ ⇧ 9 | Ctrl Shift 9 |
You can also choose Capture Area from the VizShot menu. Don't like the keys? Change them.
Press the shortcut. The screen dims, a crosshair follows your pointer, and a small magnifier shows the pixels under it. At the top, a hint reads "Drag to capture".
Drag over what you want. The size shows above the selection.
Let go. The capture is copied and saved, and the card appears.
While you drag#
Hold Shift for a square.
Press Esc or right-click to cancel.
A click without a drag also cancels, so an accidental click does nothing.
The menu bar and Dock are included if you drag over them.
Your mouse pointer is left out of the picture. To have it in, switch on Include the pointer in Settings › Images.
Capture the same area again#
Taking a before-and-after of one spot? Press the "same area" shortcut and VizShot captures the last area you dragged, with no overlay. Choose More › Repeat Last Area in the menu if you prefer the mouse.
It remembers the last area you actually dragged, not one you cancelled, and not a full-screen capture.
It forgets when you quit VizShot. Before your first drag, it tells you there's no earlier area.
