The shortcuts#
Five, the same on a Mac and on Windows.
| Action | Mac | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| Capture an area | ⌘ ⇧ 2 | Ctrl Shift 2 |
| Record an area | ⌘ ⇧ 1 | Ctrl Shift 1 |
| Capture the whole screen | ⌘ ⇧ 7 | Ctrl Shift 7 |
| Capture with a timer | ⌘ ⇧ 8 | Ctrl Shift 8 |
| Capture the same area again | ⌘ ⇧ 9 | Ctrl Shift 9 |
The defaults skip ⌘ ⇧ 3, 4 and 5 on purpose. Those are macOS's own screenshot keys, and VizShot stays out of their way.
What you can use#
A shortcut needs at least one modifier key (⌘, ⌃, ⌥ or ⇧; on Windows, Ctrl, Alt or Shift) plus another key. A bare letter would stop working for you in every other app.
Each shortcut has to be different from the others.
VizShot tells you when a combination isn't available. On a Mac, for example, "⌘⇧4 belongs to macOS Screenshot (selection). Pick another combination." On Windows, shortcuts using the Windows key are kept by Windows itself: "Try Ctrl or Alt."
Another app may already be using it. VizShot tells you the keys are taken ("Another app is using ⌘⇧2, so this shortcut does nothing right now. Choose another combination."). It can't see which app it is.
Two screenshot apps on the same keys. Some apps listen for a shortcut without claiming it, so VizShot can't know. If one press opens VizShot and another tool at once, change the shortcut in one of them.
If a shortcut does nothing, see a shortcut does nothing.
