File names and formats
Name your files with date, time, size and random letters. Pick PNG or JPEG. Uploads and the clipboard are always PNG.
VizShot names your files from a template you can change, and saves them as PNG or JPEG.
Names#
In Settings › Capture › File names, type a template. VizShot swaps these words for real values:
| Write | You get |
|---|---|
{date} | The day, like 2026-10-03 |
{time} | The time, like 14.05.12 (dots, because some systems don't allow colons in file names) |
{width} | The picture's width in pixels |
{height} | The picture's height in pixels |
{random} | Five random lowercase letters and numbers, like k7x2q. Repeating it in a name gives you the same value each time |
The default is VizShot {date} {time}, which makes files like VizShot 2026-10-03 14.05.12.png. A preview under the box shows what yours will look like.
Same name twice? VizShot adds a number:
VizShot 2026-10-03 14.05.12 (2).png. Nothing is overwritten.A word VizShot doesn't know in braces, like
{day}, stays as you typed it, so a typo is easy to spot.Characters Windows doesn't allow (like
/ : * ? " < > |) are swapped out on both Mac and Windows, so a folder that syncs between the two never breaks.
Formats#
PNG is the default. It's sharp and lossless, so it's best for screenshots with text.
JPEG makes smaller files. Quality goes from 1 to 100, with 90 as the default.
Save Retina captures at half size (Windows: "high-resolution captures") halves the pixels in saved files. It's off by default.
Recordings are always MP4.
Press Save after changing anything.
