How share links work

VizShot hosts nothing. Uploads go from your computer to a bucket you own, and the link points there.

A share link is a web address for one of your screenshots or recordings. VizShot doesn't have a cloud of its own, so you bring the storage: a bucket at Cloudflare R2, Amazon S3 or Backblaze B2. A bucket is just an online folder that you own.

  1. VizShot sends the picture straight from your computer to your bucket, signed with your own access key. It never passes through our servers.

  2. VizShot gives it a random name, like 2026/10/ followed by 32 random letters and numbers, ending in .png (or .mp4 for a recording).

  3. VizShot copies your link address plus that name to the clipboard. That's the share link.

The random name matters. Nobody can guess the link to your other screenshots from this one.

What you need#

Not sure which provider? Read choosing where uploads go. It takes about ten minutes to set up the first time.

Good to know#

  • You pay your provider, not us. For screenshots that's usually small, but check your provider's prices. Recordings are much bigger.

  • Screenshots always upload as PNG, even if you save your own copies as JPEG. A recording uploads as the MP4 it is.

  • Your secret key stays on your computer, in the Mac Keychain or the Windows Credential Manager. It's never in a file and never sent to us.

  • If VizShot ever disappeared, your links wouldn't. They point at your storage, not ours.

  • A share link needs the link address field. Without it, the upload still works, but there's no link to copy.

Ready to share? Press Get link on the card, Upload in the editor, Upload and copy link in the player for a recording, or turn on upload after every capture.

The three-step version is how to turn a screenshot into a link.
