How updates work
VizShot checks for updates about once a day. Turn on Install updates for me and they go in when you quit.
On this page
Open Settings › Updates.
Check for updates automatically (on by default): VizShot looks shortly after it opens, and then about once a day.
Install updates for me (off by default): new versions download by themselves, and go in when you quit VizShot.
Check now looks right away, and the pane tells you when it last checked.
When there's a new version#
VizShot opens a small window: "VizShot 1.2 is here" (with the real number), and a few short lines about what's new. Press Update now to download it, or Later to leave it for now. When it's ready, press Restart now, or choose When I quit to let it go in next time you close VizShot. Your captures and settings stay as they are.
The Updates pane says the same thing, "Version 1.2 is ready", with its own Update now button, and the VizShot menu shows Update Available… until you've updated.
Which version am I on?#
The Version line in the same pane. It's worth including when you contact support.
Updates that come from a store#
If you installed VizShot from the Microsoft Store, the Store updates it for you. The pane says "Updates come from the Microsoft Store" and shows only the version: there are no update switches, because there's nothing for you to set. Press Open Microsoft Store to see it there.
If an update fails#
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Couldn't check for updates" | Check your connection and try again |
| "The update didn't download" | Check your connection and try again |
| "The update couldn't be installed" | Try again, or get the newest version from the download page |
Every update is signed, and VizShot refuses one that isn't, so a copy of VizShot only ever installs updates that really come from us.
