Where your keys are kept
Your license key and your storage secret key live in the Mac Keychain or the Windows Credential Manager. Never in a plain file.
VizShot keeps two secrets on your computer:
Your license key.
Your storage secret key, for uploads, if you've set up storage.
Both are kept in your system's own secure store: the Keychain on a Mac, and the Credential Manager on Windows. They're never written into VizShot's settings file or its log.
Who sees them#
The license key is sent to our license service when you activate and about once a day, to confirm it's still good.
The storage secret key is never sent to us. It signs your uploads on your computer, and the upload goes to your provider.
Why you can't see the secret again#
Once saved, VizShot doesn't show the secret key in Settings. The field says "Saved. Paste to replace". If you need the key again, make a new one at your provider and paste it in.
Removing them#
Remove a storage provider in Settings › Storage, and its keys are deleted from this computer. Your bucket isn't touched.
Deactivate in Settings › License, and the license key is removed from this computer.
You can also see the entries in Keychain Access (Mac) or Credential Manager (Windows). Search for VizShot.
A good habit#
Give VizShot its own key at your storage provider, limited to one bucket. If you ever want to cut it off, you can delete that key without touching anything else.
