Record sound and your microphone
Your computer's sound is on by default. Your microphone is off until you switch it on in Settings.
On this page
VizShot can record two kinds of sound: what your computer is playing, and what you say into a microphone. Choose them in Settings › Recording.
Sound from your computer#
Switched on by default. It records what your computer plays, like a video or a notification.
Your microphone#
Switched off by default, because recording your voice should be your decision. To use it:
Open Settings › Recording and switch on Microphone.
A list appears. Leave it on System default, or pick a particular microphone.
Press Save.
The first time you record with the microphone on, your system asks whether VizShot may use it. Say yes. The recording waits for your answer, so the question is never in your video.
One sound track#
Your computer's sound and your microphone are mixed into one sound track in the MP4. Settings says it this way: "Saved in one track with your computer's sound, so it plays everywhere." You hear both in VizShot's own player, in other players and in a browser.
A few recordings made with early versions kept the two as separate tracks, and some players play only the first. See my recording has no sound if an older recording seems to be missing your voice.
Background noise on Windows#
On Windows, VizShot records your microphone as it is. Windows can also clean up a microphone's sound, but on some PCs that takes the voice out along with the noise, so it's off unless you ask for it.
If your room is noisy, switch on Reduce background noise, under the microphone list in Settings › Recording. It's off by default. Its note reads: "Uses the sound effects Windows has for this microphone. Voices can come out quieter." A Mac has no such switch.
If a sound source can't be used#
The video is always saved, even if sound has a problem. If a sound source can't be used, the control bar shows No sound or No microphone in amber while you record. After you stop, the bar says Saved without your microphone (or Saved without sound) with the reason under it, and you can still Play and Upload the recording from there. That bar stays until you close it.
If your system is blocking the microphone, VizShot tells you before the recording starts and takes you to the right switch. Check my recording has no sound for what to try.
If you unplug the microphone you picked, VizShot falls back to the system default.
