My recording has no sound
Check the sound switches in Settings › Recording and which microphone is chosen. The video is always saved.
On this page
Start with what VizShot told you. While you record, an amber No sound or No microphone on the control bar means that source couldn't be used. After you stop, the bar says Saved without your microphone (or Saved without sound) and gives the reason under it. You can still Play and Upload the recording from that bar, and it stays until you close it. The video is never lost because of a sound problem.
Is the right sound switched on?#
In Settings › Recording:
Sound from your computer records what your computer plays. It's on by default.
Microphone records your voice. It's off by default, so switch it on if you want narration. On a Mac it needs macOS 15 or later.
Press Save after changing anything, then record again.
Is the microphone allowed?#
Your system asks once whether VizShot may use the microphone, the first time you record with it on. If the answer was no, it doesn't ask again, so VizShot tells you instead:
In Settings › Recording, under Microphone, a line says your system isn't letting VizShot use it, with a button: Open System Settings on a Mac, Open Windows Settings on Windows.
Before a recording starts, VizShot asks: "VizShot can't use your microphone". Open Settings takes you to the right place, Record anyway records without your voice, and Cancel records nothing.
To allow it, switch VizShot on here:
Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
Windows: Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone.
Then come back to VizShot and record again. If it still says No microphone, quit VizShot and open it once more.
Is another app using the microphone?#
On Windows, a call app or another recorder can take the microphone for itself, so nothing else can use it. If the bar says No microphone and the permission is on, close that app and record again.
Can you hear it in another player?#
Your computer's sound and your microphone are mixed into one sound track, so every player plays both. A few recordings made with early versions have them as two separate tracks, and some players only play the first one. If you can hear the computer's sound in an older recording but not your voice, look for an audio track option in your player. Your voice is in the file.
Is the right microphone chosen?#
In Settings › Recording, the microphone list starts with System default. If you picked a specific microphone and then unplugged it, VizShot uses the system default instead.
Quiet or silent computer sound?#
Sound from your computer is what's playing at the time. If nothing was playing, or the volume was off, there's nothing to record.
Still silent? Contact support and tell us your system version.
