Copy text from your screen
Drag over any text on your screen and the words are on your clipboard. Your computer reads them itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Need the words, not a picture of them? Capture text reads them for you.
| Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| Capture text | ⌘ ⇧ 0 | Ctrl Shift 0 |
You can also choose Capture Text (OCR) from the VizShot menu. Don't like the keys? Change them.
Press the shortcut. The screen holds still, and the hint at the top reads "Drag over the text you want to copy".
Drag over the words: a paragraph, a table, an error message, a paused video.
Let go. The words are on your clipboard, and the card says "Text copied to clipboard", with the first lines and how many lines and characters it found.
Paste them anywhere. On the card, Copy again puts the words back on your clipboard if you've copied something else since, and Edit opens the picture in the editor.
What it reads#
Tables keep their columns. Each row comes out as one line with a tab between its columns, so a table pasted into a spreadsheet lands in its own cells.
Small text. A small area is enlarged before it's read, so menu text reads well.
No text found. The card says "No text found in that area" and your clipboard keeps what it had. Try again brings the selection back.
Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is saved#
Your computer reads the words itself, so Capture text works with no internet at all. It copies words, not a picture: nothing goes in your captures folder or Recent captures, nothing is uploaded, and the "same area again" shortcut still repeats your last screenshot.
Languages#
macOS works out the language by itself, in the languages it can read.
Windows reads the languages it has a text recognition part for. Most display languages bring one. If yours doesn't, VizShot says "Windows can’t read text in your language yet" and where to add it: in Settings › Time & language › Language & region, choose your language's options and add Optical character recognition.
From a capture you already took#
Open it in the editor and press Copy text beside Copy. It reads the picture as it is, marks and all, so anything you've redacted stays out of the words.
